Argentina's tournament density is structurally limited by the cepo cambiario and BCRA forex rules — but the Cocos Mundial de Trading from Cocos Capital (CNV-licensed ALyC) runs annually on BYMA LAB's simulator with a clean public landing. DuoMarkets' Inversionista Argentino is the offshore-CFD demo equivalent ($50K USD prize pool, Nov+). The big surprise: AR crypto exchanges (Lemon, Belo, Ripio, Buenbit, SatoshiTango, Cocos Crypto) run zero PnL trading contests — only social raffles and referral programs. Cultural reason: Argentinians use crypto as a USD substitute, not for active trading. Iván Scherman won WCTC 2023 — strongest AR anchor in the global circuit.
CNV-supervised brokers require Argentinian residency + CUIT for live-money. Crypto exchanges are P2P-style and don't run rank contests. Forex/CFD via offshore — flag BCRA/cepo caveats.
Securities trading is supervised by the Comisión Nacional de Valores (CNV); ALyCs (Agentes de Liquidación y Compensación) operate under CNV licensing and trade on BYMA. Crypto-asset providers (PSAVs / Proveedores de Servicios de Activos Virtuales) must register with the CNV under a 2024 framework; the major Argentinian crypto exchanges (Lemon, Belo, Ripio, Buenbit, SatoshiTango, Cocos Crypto) operate within this framework. Forex / CFD trading is constrained by BCRA cepo cambiario rules — outward USD remittance is restricted, and offshore-platform participation carries cepo compliance considerations. Tournament prize income is reportable under Argentinian income-tax (Ganancias) law.

Argentina's crypto culture is structurally different from most countries: crypto functions as a USD substitute / inflation hedge, not as an actively-traded asset class. This is why local crypto exchanges run zero PnL trading contests — the local crypto user base is buy-and-hold for USD-equivalent storage, not contest-style trading. Tournament density concentrates instead on the regulated-broker side (Cocos Capital's annual Mundial de Trading on BYMA LAB) and offshore CFD platforms. Argentinian trader Iván Scherman won the WCTC in 2023 — the strongest Argentinian anchor in the international championship circuit currently.
Live-money forex / CFD platforms based offshore operate in a regulatory grey zone for Argentine residents under BCRA cepo rules. Outward USD remittance for trading purposes is constrained and may require additional FX-control documentation. Most major offshore crypto exchanges (Binance, Bybit, OKX) accept Argentine spot accounts but derivatives access varies; verify current AR-resident eligibility for tournament prize purposes.
Argentina's crypto user base predominantly treats crypto as a USD substitute / inflation hedge rather than an actively-traded asset class. Local exchanges (Lemon, Belo, Ripio, Buenbit, SatoshiTango, Cocos Crypto) cater to buy-and-hold customers; the demand for trading-tournament programming doesn't justify the operational overhead. Active-trading contests for Argentine residents happen on regulated-broker side (BYMA LAB) and offshore CFD platforms.
Yes for offshore forex/CFD platforms — outward USD remittance to fund a foreign trading account is constrained by BCRA rules, and tournament prize repatriation may require FX-control documentation. Local CNV-supervised tournaments (Cocos Mundial de Trading) operate within domestic-peso flows and are unaffected. Offshore prop-firm payouts to Argentine bank accounts navigate FX restrictions case-by-case.
His 2023 WCTC win is the strongest single Argentinian credential in the international championship circuit. There are other Argentinian traders with international profiles but the WCTC win specifically positions Iván Scherman as the most-cited contemporary Argentinian anchor in the canon.
Generally yes — FTMO, FundedNext, Apex Trader Funding accept Argentine residents per their public terms. Funding payouts navigate BCRA / cepo rules; in practice many Argentine prop-firm traders receive payouts via crypto rails to avoid traditional FX-control friction. Verify each firm's current jurisdiction list and ask about your specific situation.
Tournament prize income is generally reportable under Argentinian Ganancias law. The exact treatment depends on whether the activity is hobby vs business, with separate brackets for ordinary income vs financial income. Crypto-asset gains follow AFIP guidance, with the additional complication of foreign-currency reporting requirements. Consult an Argentine contador for amounts above modest thresholds.
