Travis Hoium is a Minneapolis-based investor and one of the more transparent voices in the long-horizon, asymmetric-bets lane of US markets. An engineer by training who spent his early career at 3M and later co-founded the REM5 virtual-reality lab, he holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School and has invested for more than 25 years. He is a longtime analyst at The Motley Fool, covering energy, media and gaming, and in 2022 founded Asymmetric Investing, a newsletter and YouTube channel (47K+ subscribers, 1,600-plus videos and 5M+ views). His thesis is selecting individual stocks with 10x potential over the coming decade, a stock-picking approach with a venture-style discipline rather than a tactical trading style.

His editorial signature is radical transparency: through his subscription product he publishes every stock, every trade, every position and up-to-date performance, and reports topline results openly, +35.3% in 2024 and +34.5% in 2025. Coverage spans technology, crypto and Web3, renewable energy, streaming and VR, tied together under the Riiv Project. He has been featured by Nasdaq, Business Insider and The Motley Fool, appears as a podcast guest (including Investing Unscripted), and is comfortable in an interview setting.
