In May 2025 Lookonchain pushed an alert that one wallet had just opened a $1.25 billion long on BTC perps at forty-times leverage on Hyperliquid. Within nine days the position had been liquidated nine separate times, and inside CoinDesk's running coverage the wallet was identified as 0x5078C2fBeA2b2aD61bc840Bc023E35Fce56BeDb6 — the same address that had been pulling cumulative $16.8 billion of trading volume across the prior twelve months. The trader behind it goes by James Wynn on X, where he describes himself as a "high-risk leverage trader and a memecoin maxi" from a "small struggling town in the UK." That handle, that bio, and that wallet are the whole identity. Nobody has independently confirmed his real-world name.
The career arc inside that pseudonym is the part nobody else on Hyperliquid has replicated. The earliest public trace is a PEPE spot position that reportedly turned roughly $7,000 of memecoin entry into more than $25 million on the way up. The mid-2025 BTC long sequence is the public-correction of that arc — entries at 25x-50x on perpetuals, swing-style 70-100 hour holds across multiple cycles, peak unrealized $40M and full liquidation back to zero on the position. The volume he's pushed through Hyperliquid contributed to making the DEX the dominant on-chain perps venue in 2024-2025.
The Hyperliquid wallet itself remains the verified identity surface. Wynn has publicly disclaimed other addresses circulating in attribution-tweets (the 0x2258 wallet, for example), implicitly confirming 0x5078 as canonical. He is one of the few wallets on the DEX whose owner has fully cross-linked the X account to the on-chain trail — Nansen has a dedicated "Who is JamesWynnReal" profile, Hypurrscan tags his address with the handle, and Lookonchain has run the running PnL commentary alongside his tweets for over a year.
