Interview
You started trading futures at 14. What brought you into trading, and how did you learn in the beginning?
It started in a pretty ordinary way. I was scrolling through TikTok and came across a video of someone drawing a triangle on a chart. The price broke out, and he made something like $1,000. Then I saw another video like that, moved on to YouTube and started digging deeper.
But the market itself became my main teacher. It is the most expensive teacher, but also the most honest. You put your hard-earned money on the line and immediately learn the real cost of a mistake. Losing that kind of money at 14 hits you hard psychologically, and trading changed the way I saw the world.
How did you get into WSCT, and what was it like participating online?
I found out about the tournament by chance. I came across a story posted by one of the organisers and decided to give it a try.
It was a unique experience: sitting in class while trading in an online tournament taking place in Dubai. The starting demo balance was $50,000. I read the market the same way I always do and saw a bearish scenario developing.
My first positions hit their take-profit targets overnight on the first day. On the morning of the second day, I opened new shorts, and the market moved in my favour again.
I finished up 19.2%, around $9,600, with only about $50 separating me from second place.
How old were you when you won? How did it feel?
I was 17. The tournament took place at Blockchain Life in Dubai. There were more than 10,000 people at the event and around 800 participants in the tournament.
A guy from Minsk beat them all. I had no idea who was on the other side of the terminal. It was online, so I could not see my opponents. That meant I was not intimidated by more experienced traders. It felt like my usual trading routine.
What was the decisive moment of the tournament?
First, trading according to my own understanding of the market. I saw that there was going to be blood in the market, and that reading played out.
Second, and most importantly, taking more risk than usual. Trading a tournament while risking 1% of your account is not very interesting. You will not reach the top that way.
